Qynapse and Amsterdam UMC Publish Landmark Study in Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy

PARIS, FRANCE, May 6, 2025 – We are thrilled to share that Qynapse’s collaborative study with Amsterdam UMC has been published in Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy: “Clinical phenotypes of Alzheimer’s disease: investigating atrophy patterns and their pathological correlates”

This groundbreaking research leverages QyScore®’s neuroimaging technology to analyze post-mortem and ante-mortem MRI data, linking structural brain atrophy with key Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathologies, including amyloid-beta, pTau, neurofilament light (NfL), and vascular deterioration markers (COLIV) across both typical and atypical AD phenotypes.

Key findings from the study include:

  • Posterior cingulate volume was lower in typical Alzheimer’s disease compared to atypical Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Differences in volume-pathology relationships between clinical phenotypes were region-specific.
  • Cortical volume was affected by amyloid-beta and neuro-axonal damage, but in opposing directions for the phenotypes.
  • Post-mortem and ante-mortem scans showed minimal volume differences, at scan intervals of 2-years, demonstrating the translational capability of the work.
